The New Store is the only source for officially licensed apparel and merchandise of The New School and its colleges. It is designed to provide an opportunity for students, alumni, faculty, staff, family, and friends to express the pride, identity, and community they share with The New School.

MISSION STATEMENT

The New Store is more than a retail outlet – it is a values-driven creative outlet. The university’s approach to design, sustainability, collaboration, and leadership inspires the way we source products, create partnerships, run store operations, and share messaging. We prioritize partnership with vendors that meet the following criteria:

• Ethically minded fair labor practices
• Environmentally responsible, sustainable materials
• Made in the US
• Partnerships with The New School alumni
• Local or bespoke, independent vendors
• BIPOC and women-owned businesses or suppliers

 

OPERATIONS AND PRACTICES

Though The New School recently celebrated its centennial, The New Store is relatively new and runs as a small business. In short, our retail operations are a one-stop shop. We handle all sourcing, storage, fulfillment and customer service in-house.

Our pricing reflects what’s necessary to cover our own costs and further support the university, all while keeping our margins within the industry standard. We are actively seeking ways we can engage our creative community of students, faculty, and alumni that avoids speculative work while respecting fair compensation and labor practices as well as academic boundaries.

 

OUR DESIGN ELEMENTS

What makes The New School merchandise so special? It is our one of a kind typeface designed just for us. It’s called "Neue" and is unlike any conventional font. In fact, it breaks all the font-like rules. After all, at The New School we are always rethinking and reinventing convention. That is why our colleges are renowned for world changing creativity.

Our system brings together letters in different widths to create distinctive impressions, and the red letters are our very own Pantone color called “Parsons Red.” This specially designed system means each item is as unique as you are.
